The Tallest Mountains

In its competitive nature, mankind has sought to climb all the Earth’s tallest mountains. We have conquered Kilimanjaro, defeated Everest, and mounted McKinley. These are among the earth’s tallest mountains, but they are nothing when compared to the tallest known planetary mountain in the solar system: Mars’s Olympus Mons.

Olympus Mons measures 22 kilometers in height, more than double the height of Everest. It’s also a volcano that protrudes from the barren Martian landscape like an immense pimple, yearning to be popped.
